The storyline within the film demonstrates this. Chaplin’s tramp falls in love with Merna, who returns his passion. Then, a tightrope walker named Rex (played by Henry Bergman) comes onto the scene and Merna promptly falls in adore with him. Why? Because his act is daring and unsafe while
